Students from a Telford school have been putting their artistic talents to good use on the walls of one of our hotels.
The art students from Thomas Telford School were commissioned by the team at Grays Hotel to create bespoke artwork for its newly-refurbished restaurant.
Art and design teacher, Gemma Guest, said: "We were delighted to be asked if we'd be interested in producing some artwork for the hotel, and it's an excellent opportunity for our students to display their work."
The project has involved eleven Year 11 early entry students who had all completed their GCSE in art and achieved an A or A* grade.
"As the restaurant looks out onto the courtyard and the gardens at the hotel, the students chose the theme of natural forms, mainly focusing on butterflies, flowers and colour," said Gemma.
To help with the development of their designs, the students looked at a variety of artwork from a wide range of artists. The work they have produced will now count towards their overall grade in AS level art, and they will go on to complete their A level a year early.
Grays Hotel general manager, Kate Jordan, said: "We have been amazed at the quality of work from the students, and we're proud to have their works of art on display.
"We've had some lovely comments already from our residents and delegates, and the project has been a real success.
"In fact, we're so pleased with the work that has been produced that the students are now creating artwork to be displayed throughout the rest of the hotel too."
Grays Hotel is part of the Southwater Event Group, which also owns the Holiday Inn Telford, The International Hotel, and The International Centre, Telford.
