Preparations in full swing

Bosses at Telford’s largest conference centre say preparations for this weekend’s visit by the leader of the Anglican Church are in full swing.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will visit The International Centre, in Telford, on Saturday, as part of a four-day pastoral visit to the Lichfield Diocese.

Southwater Event Group Chief Executive, Tom Gray, said: “We are delighted to be hosting such a high profile event, and our team has been working hard to make sure everything is ready for our very special guest.”

On Saturday morning at the venue, The Archbishop will deliver a lecture on heresy, its effect on the 21st Century church and how Christians should respond.

And there will also be a separate session specially for children called Blaze.

After a lunchtime market place, there will be an afternoon all-age worship celebration, also at The International Centre, giving every parish the chance to come together as a Diocesan family and be addressed by the Archbishop.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for The International Centre to welcome a different audience to our venue, and we’re looking forward to helping Shropshire church members celebrate such a special occasion.”

Tickets for Saturday’s events in Telford are free, but must be ordered in advance from emma.williams@lichfield.anglican.org

During his four-day visit, the Archbishop will also visit Walsall Football Club for a Question Time evening with Tim Vine, where the audience will have the chance to ask him questions, as well as visits to a Baptist Church in Stafford, and a Eucharist service at Lichfield Cathedral.
